Crazy theory no. n (rechristened the theory of inner peace) : Have you ever wondered what brought those crazy supercomputers into this world of ours called the Earth ? It was curiosity, the human desire to know and understand everything in this world, and out of it. It has brought Science to the level it is now and it is the sole driving force pushing us on to explore the farthest frontiers. We have developed computing power to process terabytes of information at teraflops per second and still haven't been to predict something as simple as weather. I say simple because it is simple as compared to other stellar events, say prediction of solar flares. Now with such massive power available, we still aren't able to predict the weather because of the butterfly effect, i.e. we need to consider each and every tiny variable and execute enormous mathematical calculations. This is only for weather. Imagine having to simulate the entire earth, no, even the entire universe. We play computer games. We have seen them evolve too. The more "realistic" it gets, the better the processor, RAM and graphics card and hard disk we need which then consumes more electric power. So can you imagine what it would take to simulate the universe. It would take the energy equivalent to the energy of the universe (e=mc^2) and thus to obtain the energy to simulate the universe we would have to destroy it (a classic case of curiosity killed the inquisitive human). This theory I forward automatically puts a limit on the knowledge,no, information we humans are capable of storing and analyzing. It is impossible for us to understand the universe. Even to understand the Earth completely we would need more than terajoules of energy (e=mc^2).
So next time you let your mind wander towards the infinity surrounding us and despair about you insconsequential size both in terms of mass and energy, cheer up, you are not supposed to know. Revel in your ignorance and cherish your enlightenment.
